The cross-country 'Panama Limited' was an all-pullman luxury train operated by the Illinois Central Railroad between Chicago and New Orleans. Inaugurated in 1911, the "Panama Limited" enabled passengers to depart from Chicago, travel in comfort and style to New Orleans, Louisiana and transfer for further passage on-board a ship for Panama. After the Panama Canal opened, passengers could embark a ship through to California or across the Pacific. Here, in these official railroad-issued period postcards, we see the famous train's interior, observation car, the train at speed, and the four track approach into Chicago that "help keep the 'Panama Limited' on time."
