Deadwood Central Railroad

This terrific view was taken on the Deadwood Central Railroad that operated in the Ruby Basin mining district in South Dakota. A portion of the road was dual gauge, however it wasn't between Lead and Deadwood. This portion was, interestingly enough, electrified while the section from Deadwood, Pluma, and Kirk were dual gauge. Owned by the CB&Q, the Deadwood Central was abandoned in 1924. I believe the locomotives used were 2-8-0s with this one apparently outfitted for operating in reverse. Note the pilot and the large headlight mounted on the tender.
