Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railroad

The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway had routes that ran into Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York including trackage along the shore of Lake Erie. Beginning in 1833 as the Erie and Kalamazoo Railroad using horses to pull cars, the LS&MS eventually merged with the New York Central 1n 1914 to become a key component in the Central's 'Water Level Route' to Chicago. This LS&MS train has just pulled into Norwalk, Ohio in this view postmarked 1910. The rather bucolic scene combines both the industrial age with a simpler mode of transportation as can be spotted to the right of the station.
