Indianapolis & Cincinnati Traction Co.

The Indianapolis & Cincinnati Traction Co. was formed in 1902 running high-speed interurban cars between Indiana and Ohio. In this circa 1910 card, we see car 311, built by the St. Louis Car Co. in 1905, and its crew during a stop to pick up paperwork. This particular car was equipped with a "bow" or "hoop" style trolley pole and, from the hoses under the front coupler, was set up for "MU" operations. Multiple-unit equipment allowed a series of connected cars to run together with power and brakes controlled by the head car. The I&C finally shut down in 1932, another line lost to the battle with buses. For more information n the I&C, click Here.
