Rail Car #3, Bridgton & Harrison Railway

Originally Sandy River & Rangely Lakes Railroad #4 built in 1925, this terrific rail motor car was leased to the Bridgton & Harrison Railway in 1936, where it was renumbered as #3, after the abandonment of the SR&RL.  For the next five years, #3 served the line well being used  for passengers, mail, express package service, and baggage. The boxcar structure on the rear is part of the rail motor car itself. Sadly, this great two-foot narrow gauge line was abandoned in 1941. Here, in a circa 1930s portrait at the B&H station in Bridgton, Maine, stands another example of an American narrow gauge railroad's ingenuity answering necessity. For more information on the Bridgton & Harrison Railroad, click Here.
