Chicago, Illinois Yards

This circa 1906 postcard has some interesting details. The Michigan Central Railroad, a subsidiary of the New York Central, shared trackage rights with the Illinois Central and that probably owned the yard seen here. The Michigan Central also shared the IC's Central Station in Chicago as well, so it looks as if MC used the yard for coach storage. Note the switcher locomotive sneaking passed behind the freight cars, lower right. 



This postcard, from the same time frame as the one above, shows another view of the Illinois Central's Chicago yard.
