Daylight, Southern Pacific Railroad

Regarded as "The Most Beautiful Passenger Train in the World", The Southern Pacific Railroad's "Daylight" operated between Los Angeles and San Francisco, California. The locomotives assigned to service on the "Daylight" were "Northern" type 4-8-4 wheel arrangement locomotives built by two of the most famous American builders, the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the Lima Locomotive Works of Lima, Ohio. In the three circa 1930s photo postcards below, we see the "Daylight", powered by one of Lima's Class GS-2 motive power, smoothly sailing among the setting of wonderful California scenery.
