Route of the Electroliners

The Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad, known as the North Shore Line, was an interurban railroad that connected Chicago, Illinois with Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This view shows one of the two sets of  'Electroliners'  built in 1941 by the St. Louis Car Company. Each Electroliner train was a set of four permanently attached, articulated cars consisting of end cars, each with motorman cabs, and two regular passenger cars in the center. The Electroliners were capable of 80 mph operating speed and were factory tested to a top speed of over 110 mph. The Electroliners were also the first air-conditioned interurbans at the time.
