Sayre, Pennsylvania

Sayre, Pennsylvania was a true railroad town in every sense of the phrase and where nearly everyone worked for the Lehigh Valley Railroad with Sayre being its center of operation. The large station in this postcard, circa 1910, shows how busy the adjacent yards were at this time. The bridge in the  background was a walkway to the locomotive shops. The station was built in 1888 and, thankfully, still stands today. The 127 year old building was acquired and restored by the Sayre Historical Society. Note the camelback locomotive entering the scene on the lower left of the card, as a long freight passes through.
