Spokane and Inland Empire Railroad

This circa 1910 card shows one of the plush observation cars following up a train on the Spokane and Inland Empire Railroad. Formed in 1904 as an interurban line that operated from Spokane, Washington to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho using multiple-unit (MU) equipment that allowed a number of cars to be controlled by the first car in the train. Suffering from the typical financial problems of interurban railroads, the line eventually merged with the Great Northern Railway in 1929. For more information on the S&IE, click Here.
