Rochester Transit Corporation

This circa 1940 linen-era postcard shows some of the streetcars of the Rochester Transit Corporation that operated in Rochester, New York. The RTC was formed in 1938 to manage both the Rochester area's streetcars, buses, and trains until 1968. It also managed the city's streetcar tunnel system known as the "Rochester Subway" until 1957. The subway cars differed from the surface streetcars by having a different roof end profile without the large destination signs. Car No. 859, right, is one of the subway cars and the two on the right, No. 616 and No. 1234, were surface streetcars. For more information on the RTC of Rochester, click Here.
