Iowa's Charles City Western Railroad was built in 1910 and first used gas-powered cars until it was electrified in 1914. In this early 1960s photochrome portrait, we see #303, built by by the St. Louis Car Company in 1949. Pictured in a striking orange and silver scheme, this traction motor stood as a testimony to the railroad's pride in its equipment. The CCW was bought by the Iowa Terminal Railroad in 1963. Note the all-window cab.
