Vista Dome Vistas

The advent of the vista-dome car on modern passenger trains allowed passengers more than the ability to look out at passing scenery...they could look up at it as well. In these two cards we get a sense of the exitement passengers had when passing through the breath-taking scenery of the Western mountains. This first postcard for the Northern Pacific was based on a commisioned painting by railroad artist Leslie Ragan.

This card was issued for the Western Pacific's 'California Zephyr'.
