This 1912 card is a rare glimpse into close-up railroad construction gang on the Lehigh & New England Railroad in north western New Jersey with a Marion steam shovel is hard at work on the right-of-way, The gent with the bow tie standing in front of the locomotive is probably the construction engineer or superintendent.

Atlantic Coast Line Yards in Waycross Georgia

This 1909 view of the yards gives us a real look at the railroad rolling stock in use at the time. Note the boxcars with ventilated doors and end hatches for produce loading prior to the invention of the refrigerated car.

Newton, New Jersey

This circa 1910 view shows the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad's depot in Newton, Sussex County, New Jersey. This terrific little station has all of the elements of a real 'down-at-the-depot' scene: baggage cart, semaphore-style train order boards, kids hanging around, boxes and sacks piled up, and some of the DL&W's cars on a track in the background. Note the switch stand targets.
