Dining Car Interior, Pere Marquette Railway

After World War Two, rationing and train travel restrictions had finally come to an end ushering in a new era for railroads and passengers alike. The lightweight passenger cars were taking over the famous trains, including new dining cars as well. On the Pere Marquette Railway, two distinguished modern trains, both named the 'Pere Marquette', provided service on the line between Detroit and Grand Rapids, Michigan. The typical consist of a 'Pere Marquette' was a single EMD E7A 2,000 HP diesel locomotive, a railway post office and baggage car, a standard baggage car, a chair and lounge car, a dining car, another chair and lounge car, and a chair and lounge observation car. In this 1946 dual-view postcard published prior to the PM being merged into the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad, we see the interior of a new "Pere Marquette" dining car with its all female staff. Although the young woman on the left is enjoying her dining experience, her travelling companion appears somewhat nonplussed. For more information on the PM, click Here.
