Lounge Car Interior, Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad

The regional Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad constructed a few of its own passenger cars including this cafe and lounge car seen here in the car's inaugural 1946 postcard. The wagon-salon moderne, looking a bit gaudy by modern standards, was part of "The Whippoorwill", launched in 1946Running between Chicago and Evansville, Indiana, "The Whippoorwill" was one of only two short-lived attempts at streamlined passenger service on the C&EI. The train was discontinued just two years later in 1948.
